The historic doorway of Miller's House"Gods Providence is my Inheritance"

Miller's House is the oldest dateable house in Stromness owned by the Merchant family of "Miller" for the bulk of 3 Centuries. Lieutenant James Miller while in command of HMS Cyane, conducted a successful naval engagement against a French frigate in the Bay of Naples in 1809. Captain George L Miller was the owner of the Stromness coaling schooner, Mary Grace during the 1920's.

A religious statement, written in heavy moulded stone above the Stromness, Orkney in 1910doorway, indicates a period before 1660, although the marriage entabliture and joint coat of arms of John Miller and Mary Nesbit dates back to 1716.

The house has remained in the merchant family of Miller from then until 1997, when following the death of the late Nellie Miller, it was bought by Magnus and Maureen Dennison who have renovated to a high standard.
